Tagged ‘Sunshine 2020′, the 2-Day event held in Akure, Ondo State capital brought together professionals from different disciplines to chart a course for supporting the One Health Concept in Public Health.
Delivering his Keynote paper entitled: ‘One Health Concept: MLS the Pivot for achieving set target‘ Dr. Toyosi Y. Raheem noted that efforts by one sector alone cannot prevent or eliminate the problem of disease outbreaks, hence the need for many professionals in different sectors to join forces to support one health approaches so as to effectively detect, respond and prevent outbreaks of zoonoses.

According to the immediate Past President of Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria (AMLSN), Medical Laboratory Scientists have very significant roles to perform in the achievement of the targets for One Health through quality diagnostic laboratory services to Protect animals and preserve the future.
In their separate goodwill messages, Dr. Akanbiemu Francis ( Permanent Secretary, Primary Healthcare Board Ondo State) encouraged members of the health team to work closely towards achieving the patient care. Dr. Pharm. Adekola Samuel (Chairman, Association of Community Pharmacists of Nigeria) who was also the chairman of the occasion applauded YMLSF for the event even as he affirmed that Medical Laboratory Science is a key member of the health team.

In a panel discussion entitled: ‘building synergy for one health concept‘ panelists came to the conclusion that collaborations between members of the healthcare team with other sectors will go a long way to improving health for both people and animals.
In an interview, the National Secretary of YMLSF, Solomon Ediale said “the choice of the theme was inspired by the need to bring all health professionals in Nigeria together having observed that there is constant infighting amongst us which is making health care delivery to be at zero level in Nigeria”.
The event which held from 7th to 8th February was well attended. Notable dignitaries at the event were Dr. Oke (Chairman Nigeria Medical Association, Ondo state), Mrs. Akinjo (Director, Medical Laboratory Services, Hospital Management Board , Ondo state) among others..
