930

We are glad to bring to you some notes we took from the recently concluded Young Medical Laboratory Scientists Forum (YMLSF) second webinar in the series of her monthly online seminar tagged ‘the Refined Medical Laboratory Scientist‘.

The topic was ‘How to write a quality and eye-grabbing CV/ Resume‘ and the Speaker was a Medical Laboratory Scientist cum Human Resource extraordinaire Mrs. Nonye Umanyi.

Here are the notes we took.

  1. Attend training, seminars, workshops as that’s what the knowledge-based economy requires.
  2. Belong to platforms- WhatsApp groups, Facebook groups, LinkedIn, etc as they are a great source of information.
  3. Read job adverts twice and follow the instructions on the adverts to the letter.

The difference between Resume and Curriculum Vitae.

A resume is a summary usually 1-2 pages while Curriculum Vitae which means course of life involves the information about you in full detail. There are no maximum pages for CV except stated.

Points to note when writing a CV or Resume

  1. Make sure your current address is on your CV or Resume as the nearer you are to the recruiter the better your chances of getting the job.
  2. Put your gender
  3. Put your training, certifications, and licenses on your CV or Resume. Include the name of the facilitator, facility, month, and year of the training.
  4. Work Experience: start with your current job. Put the month and year you work there. Put also the location of the facility and name.
  5. Skills: Don’t be ashamed of your skills. Whatever skill you have, include it in your CV. Be it digital marketing, business skill, writing skills, etc.
  6. Referees: Always inform your referees ahead of time so they can vouch for you.
  7. Social Media Profile: always have nice things on your Facebook etc. Be careful what you write on your social media accounts.
  8. Font Style and size should be uniform across.
  9. Your CV should always be in PDF so that no one edits it, except the recruiter requests the CV in word.

Tips for Interviews

  1. Be punctual to Interviews
  2. Before you go for interviews, research the organization as well as your role.
  3. Don’t wear jeans to an interview. For men, dress professionally with a tie. Ladies don’t dress like a slay queen to an interview.
  4. Be mindful of your cologne, some can be distracting.
  5. Maintain eye contact and always smile at your interviewer.
  6. Interviewers check at skills, knowledge, years of experience, and personality.

Thank you.
