Diphtheria: AMLSN issues red alert to Medical Lab. Scientists

Worried by the reported cases of an infection called Diphtheria in the Country as announced by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), the Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria (AMLSN) National Secretariat has issued an advisory to practising Medical Laboratory Scientists across Nigeria.

 

In the advisory, AMLSN National Publicity Secretary Mr. Olusoji Billyrose advised Practitioners to have a high index of suspicion about cases and specimens sent to their respective Laboratories.

He went further to encourage Practitioners to ensure to tighten and enforce the use of PPEs at their workplaces.

DIPHTHERIA OUTBREAK

 

Dear Colleagues,

 

As you may be aware, there is Diphtheria outbreak in some part of the country with reported cases in Lagos, Yobe, Osun and Kano.

Currently, all states are on alert mode with heightened surveillance.

 

To this end, as Laboratorians, we should have high index of suspicion about cases and specimen sent to the Laboratory 

 

All suspected samples should be collected and sent to the National Reference Laboratory, Abuja. We are also expected to create awareness and sensitize all laboratories within out network.

 

Kindly ensure to tighten and enforce the use of PPEs at your work place.
