Dr Godswill Okara who is a Member of the Board of Directors of the International Federation of Biomedical Laboratory Science (IFBLS) has emphasised the need why Medical Laboratory Professionals should be celebrated.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the CelebrateLAB West Africa Conference 2023 held in Abuja Nigeria, Dr Godswill Okara who is also the Registrar/Secretary General of the West African Postgraduate College of Medical Laboratory Science (WAPCMLS) noted that Medical Laboratory Professionals should be celebr ated because solving health issues begins and ends in the Laboratory.
According to him, this goes to show how valuable these sets of professionals are in healthcare delivery.
He also used the medium to call on the Government at all levels to focus on the urgency of laboratory strengthening and financing to help combat the ravaging impact of diseases on the continent.
CelebrateLab West Africa Conference is the largest gathering of Medical Laboratory Professionals in the West Africa sub-region as well as research professionals, regulators, policymakers, academia, medical product manufacturers, and suppliers.
It is the 9th annual edition of the conference and the first time it is held in Nigeria.
The Conference started on the 25th of April and will end on the 28th of April 2023.
The first CelebrateLAB Conference took place in Liberia in 2014, following the outbreak of the Ebola Virus Disease in the subregion that claimed several lives and revealed major gaps in West Africa’s healthcare systems, especially in the area of disease surveillance and diagnostics.
