14th June each year is marked globally as World Blood Donor Day.
This year’s wasn’t different as the Haematology and Blood Transfusion Scientists Society of Nigeria (HBTSSN) South- South Region of Nigeria in conjunction with the Armed Forces Blood Centre and the National Blood Transfusion Services (NBTS) Rivers State rolled out the drums to celebrate the day in a spectacular way.
Activities leading to the Day started with a Donor Recall on the 8th, and a Media Sensitization at two Popular radio stations in Port Harcourt by 12pm on the 9th and 10th of June respectively.
This was followed with a road show around Rumuola Area of Port Harcourt on the 11th and a Thanksgiving Service as well as a Blood Drive at St Jude Military Church on the 13th of June 2021.

Meanwhile, activities climaxed on the 14th of June which is the World Blood Donor Day (WBDD) with a lecture on this year’s theme ‘Celebrating the Gift of Blood’ by the founding President of HBTSSN Professor ZA Jeremiah.

The programme ended with Award presentations to deserving Support Partners and appreciation Gifts to Donors who participated in the Blood Drive as well as an interactive session.
