Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN) has commenced a 4-day capacity-building workshop for laboratory managers and quality officers, at its headquarters in Abuja.
The workshop is focused on transitioning to the updated ISO 15189:2022 standard, as well as equipping participants with the necessary knowledge and tools to align their systems with the revised international standard for medical laboratories.
In his opening remarks, the Acting Registrar/CEO of MLSCN, Dr. Donald I. Ofili, reaffirmed the Council’s commitment to strengthening quality systems in Nigerian laboratories.
He emphasized the importance of continuous training and retraining in sustaining global best practices and ensuring compliance with evolving international standards.

The workshop’s technical sessions began with Mr. Victor Edet Essien, one of the facilitators, who provided an overview of “Quality Management Systems (QMS), an introduction to ISO 15189:2022”, while highlighting the major changes in the revised version.
Following this, Mrs. Ahunanya Ijeoma delivered a session on the “Scope, Normative References, and Terms and Definitions of ISO 15189:2022”.

Dr. Emmanuel Adewale Ojo led a review of Clauses 4 and 5 of the standard, with a particular emphasis on Risk Management and its central role in laboratory quality assurance and patient safety
