AMLSN FCT COVID-19 Rapid Response Team tour facilities, pay courtesy visits

The COVID-19 Rapid Response team of AMLSN FCT Branch has embarked on sensitization tour across facilities and paid courtesy visits to some agencies and policymakers on the COVID-19 scourge.

Among those visited are:

1. Nigeria Centre for Disease Control
2. The General Manager Hospital Management Board
3. The Director, FCT Public Health Department
4. COVID-19 Sample collection centre @ ICC
5. COVID-19 Treatment Centre at Asokoro Hospital
6. The MD, Garki Hospital,
7. National Hospital Etc.

At the NCDC National Reference Laboratory, Gaduwa.

The visit enabled the team to assess the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control on sampling, testings, and challenges they are faced with. The Director of NCDC Reference Laboratory, Sct Mbah welcomed the team and reiterated that only “Medical Laboratory Scientists” are involved in testing the COVID-19 virus.

At the Public Health Department of FCT, colleagues were seen in high spirits in their duties in sample collection from the field. The Director, Dr. Josephine Okechukwu welcomed the team and pledged the readiness of the Department to collaborate with the Association in the training of Medical Laboratory Scientists in sample collection and building of capacity in the fight against COVID-19.

The General Manager FCT Hospital Management Board, Dr. Francis Alu noted with great importance the place of Medical Laboratory Scientists in the eradication of the COVID-19 virus. He informed the team of the inclusion of Medical Laboratory Scientists among health workers currently on training at Gwagwalada. He pledged the readiness of his office to collaborate with the Association in this era of fighting the scourge of COVID-19.

The team visited the ICC COVID-19 sample collection center and glad to report that 99.99% of those involved in this exercise are Medical Laboratory Scientists ably led by Sct  Hon. Babakayode Olasuyi.

Receiving Briefing at the Asokoro District Hospital Treatment Center

The team visited the Asokoro District Hospital COVID-19 Treatment center to boost the morales of Colleagues working there.

The team also visited colleagues at National Hospital, Garki Hospital, Karu General Hospital, Public Health Laboratory, Etc with the intention of knowing how they are doing, and to also do a baseline assessment of their challenges of  PPEs and other safety measures that are needed to their safety.

The Team is billed to present her report to the Honourable Secretary of Health FCT and Minister of State (FCT) on a later date.
