Two Nigerian Medical Laboratory Scientists have died as a result of the ravaging COVID-19 pandemic.
The National Publicity Secretary of the Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria (AMLSN), Dr. Casmir Ifeanyi disclosed this while featuring on Channels Television flagship Program ‘COVID-19 Update’ on Wednesday, 10th of June.
According to him, a Medical Laboratory Scientist died in Kaduna State after getting infected with Coronavirus while another died in a ghastly motor accident en route Abuja with COVID-19 Specimens for testing.
He said:
“Just yesterday we buried a Medical Laboratory Scientist who died of COVID-19 in Kaduna State. Today again, a Medical Laboratory Scientist died on road traffic accident enroute to Abuja with COVID-19 Specimens he was transporting to Abuja.”
Dr. Ifeanyi who spoke extensively on ‘Infection prevention and control in Laboratories’ also advocated for continuous training and retraining of Medical Laboratory Scientists on the doning and doffing of Personal Protective Equipments (PPE).
