The Governing Board of the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN) has approved a waiver on Continuous Professional Development (CPD) penalty and 200% Penalty on Annual Practice Fees for some categories of Medical Laboratory Scientists.

The categories of Medical Laboratory Scientists are Medical Laboratory Scientists in the diaspora and Medical Laboratory Scientists in the Military.

According to the Registrar and Chief Executive officer, Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN) Dr. Tosan Erhabor, Medical Laboratory Scientists in the diaspora have been granted CPD waiver meaning they will no longer be required to present CPD for licence renewal.

This is in response to appeals from Council members in diaspora.

Also the 200% Penalty on Annual Practice Licence fee has been cancelled for overseas members with effect from 2020.

However, the diasporean Medical Laboratory Scientist will be expected to show evidence that they are in the diaspora by showing the data page of his or her international passport, visa page and where they are working.

Similarly, Medical Laboratory Scientists in the military posted to the frontline are also exempted from CPD credits while their posting last.

In a related development, Nigerianmedlabscientist.com.ng has it in good authority that Council hasn’t abolished CPD Penalty as speculated in some quarters, especially in this season of the pandemic.

The essence of the CPD penalty is to enable Medical Laboratory Scientists unable to acquire the required number of Credit points in the preceding year to renew their Licence.

Endeavor to renew your license before the deadline elapses to avert two hundred percent penalty.
