The executive Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Douye Diri has assured members of the Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria (AMLSN) of a hitch-free 57th Annual Scientific Conference, Workshop and Annual General Meeting in Bayelsa State.
The Miracle Governor as he is fondly called gave the assurance when a high-powered delegation of Medical Laboratory Scientists led by its national President, Prof. James Damen paid him a courtesy visit at the Government House Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.
The Governor said: ‘all relevant stakeholders, government functionaries beginning from the Commissioner of Health are hereby put on notice to ensure that this conference is successfully held in our state.’
Speaking earlier, the National President Prof. James Damen in his address noted that the purpose of the visit was to appreciate the governor for the purposeful leadership he has entrenched on the good people of Bayelsa and Nigeria at large, physically present his award to him as well as intimate the Governor on the Association’s 57th Annual Scientific Conference and Annual General Meeting to be held in Yenagoa from the 8th to 12th of September.
On the choice of the Governor for the Distinguished COVID-19 response Champion Award, Prof. Damen said an assessment done shows that Sen. Douye Diri is the best performing Governor in South South Nigeria in terms of his proactive leadership style to the pandemic, training of Medical Laboratory Scientists and building of Molecular Biology Laboratory.
Prof. Damen commended the Governor for the commencement of commercial flights in the state even as he used the medium to request for the Governor’s presence as the Chief Host during the opening ceremony of the Conference as well as solicit the support of the Governor stressing that the conference will boost the economy of the state.
Bayelsa State is hosting the Annual Scientific Conference of the Association for the first time and it is worthy of note that it is happening during the tenure of the prosperity administration.
Present at the visit from the government angle was the Governor, the Head of Service, Chief of Staff, Chief of staff deputy Governor office, Principal Secretary Government house, Commissioner of trade and investment, commissioner of information and strategy, commissioner of health and the government house press etc.
On the side of the Association was the National President, Prof. James Damen, the Local Organizing committee Chairman MLS. Lelei Eunice, the Second Vice President South South, Osarobo Eseiwi, National Organizing committee Members Valerie Ogechi, Dr. Agoro E.S, Charles Agu, Igbaro Grace, Isaac Owili-Mensah, Chiladi Jeff etc.
Highpoints of the visit was the conferment of an award on the Governor, Signing of the visitor’s registry, a group photograph as well as a dinner.
