The Management of the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN) has officially released a statement confirming the death of its Registrar/Chief Executive Officer, Prof. Tosan Amos Erhabor, who passed away on April 13, 2025.
In a heartfelt obituary issued by the Council on its X.com handle, the management of MLSCN described Prof. Erhabor as a transformational leader, reformer, and devoted professional who significantly advanced the field of medical laboratory science in Nigeria.
“With a deep sense of sorrow, yet with gratitude to God for an impactful life, the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria announces the sudden passage of its amiable Registrar/CEO,” the statement read.
Prof. Erhabor joined the Council in 1996 after a distinguished career at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital. Rising through the ranks, he was eventually appointed as Registrar/CEO—a position he held with distinction until his demise.

The Council praised his contributions to the digital transformation of its operations, improvements in laboratory accreditation processes, and expansion of training institutions nationwide. Under his leadership, MLSCN became a model for efficiency and transparency in public service delivery.

“He tenaciously pursued excellence… expanded the scope of medical laboratory accreditation, as well as training institutions, among other achievements,” the Council noted.
The MLSCN also extended its prayers, stating, “May his gentle soul find rest in the bosom of the Lord.”
Funeral arrangements will be announced by Prof. Erhabor’s family in due course.
The news of his death has sent ripples across the medical laboratory Science community, with tributes pouring in from professionals and stakeholders nationwide.
